Crystal Palace sanctioned the sale of Odsonne Edouard to Lens back in September.
The Ligue 1 side paid a sum of €3.7m (£3.2m) for the Frenchman, after he fell behind both Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah in the pecking order at Selhurst Park under Oliver Glasner.
The fee was so low due to the fact Odsonne Edouard was in the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace – and Lens will feel they got themselves a bargain amid a surprise title race up against PSG.
Odsonne Edouard now among top scorers in France after leaving Crystal Palace
The former Celtic man is flying at Lens, netting 12 goals in 23 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season.
Only Joaquin Panichelli, Mason Greenwood and Esteban Lepaul have scored more.
Edouard, who Ipswich wanted, has bagged some crucial strikes in his 23 appearances, including winners against Auxerre, Paris and Marseille, as well as both goals in a 2-0 win over Nice.
These points have landed Lens in a shock title challenge up against PSG, with the former Crystal Palace striker sitting just one point behind the French giants in Ligue 1 at the time of writing.
Despite struggling to make the starting XI more often than not under Patrick Vieira, Roy Hodgson and Glasner, Edouard – who struggled at Leicester – always displayed a good attitude whilst in south London and scored some important goals, so it is good to see him shining back in France, now at the age of 28.
It remains a mystery as to whether Steve Parish inserted any bonus payments or sell-on clauses into this deal given how far out of the picture Edouard was upon his departure from SE25.
However, if any such clauses were included, Crystal Palace would stand to benefit financially if the Lens No.11 can guide his club to a historic Ligue 1 title for the first time since 1998 – the one and only time Lens have ever won the competition.
