Marcos Senesi has a big decision to make about his future, especially after multiple impressive performances this season. Aston Villa are increasingly emerging as a destination for him.
The defender’s Bournemouth contract runs out in the summer. So far, there are no signs of a renewal, with the Cherries having failed in every attempt to tie him down beyond the current campaign.
Throughout the last few weeks, the Italian press has constantly kept a close eye on the Argentine. Sport Witness have also covered claims about Juventus having tabled their offer in a desperate attempt to beat competition.
There has been a belief that Senesi would also be open to a move to Serie A. Even before he joined Bournemouth, he was constantly linked with a switch to the Italian top-flight.
Now, it feels like he might not end up there after all. Aston Villa have a better chance at convincing the player.
Villans offering significant wages
Today’s Corriere dello Sport takes note of Juve’s possible targets for the summer. Marcos Senesi is viewed as one of the favourites to bolster the Old Lady’s backline and work has been underway to seal a deal.
However, the transfer is facing stern challenges – mainly because of Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund. The two clubs have made ‘concrete moves’ for the ex-Feyenoord player and are offering a bigger wage than the Bianconeri.
Unai Emery’s side are ‘offering significantly higher salary and bonuses’ and this swings the race in their favour.
Juventus are aware of these problems and have also been alerted to AS Roma’s initial approach for the defender. That is why they are already considering alternatives and are looking inwards to Serie A for options.
Senesi can add a lot to Aston Villa
Aston Villa
There is no doubt about Marcos Senesi’s abilities, considering how he has proved himself this season. He was on the fringes of the squad last season but that hasn’t stopped him from making a real mark after Dean Huijsen’s departure to Real Madrid.
Aston Villa should see the possible signing as a coup. They could yet play in Europe next season and Senesi already has experience of that from his time at Feyenoord.
While excellent on the ball, he is capable of playing in various shapes, having played seamlessly in a back three in the past. Even in a back four, he has impressed a fair bit.
He is 28 and approaching the peak of his powers, which makes a free transfer quite a attractive opportunity. If Aston Villa can, they should push for the move now.
