Jurgen Klopp cautioned Arne Slot about the challenges of managing Mohamed Salah at Liverpool following his outburst last year. The Egyptian will bid farewell to Anfield at the conclusion of this season.

Since joining the club in 2017, Salah has been nothing less than a legend. He has netted over 250 goals, claimed four Premier League Golden Boots and aided the Reds in clinching two top-flight titles and the Champions League.

The 33-year-old inked a new two-year contract last year but announced this week that the current campaign will be his final one as a Liverpool player. This comes a few months after he criticised the club and manager Slot, alleging that someone was attempting to push him out of Anfield.

During this war of words, former boss Klopp's confession from a 2025 documentary about Salah seemed pertinent as Slot tried to tackle the issue.

The public disagreement occurred in December, after the Egyptian spoke out following a disappointing 3-3 draw against Leeds United. He claimed he had been "thrown under the bus" amid poor performances and stated he had "no relationship" with Slot, having been sidelined for three consecutive matches.

Salah's grievances were quickly smoothed over, but speaking in a BBC One documentary titled 'Mo Salah - Never Give Up' that was released shortly after the incident, Klopp hinted that the 33-year-old is not the easiest of players to manage.

Klopp said: "We are all massively influenced by our past - how we were raised, where we grew up. Mo knew early on [in his life] that he had to do more than others. He always developed. He never stops. That is his mindset. After each summer break he came back and had a new skill. It was like he had spent the whole time just practising one particular type of pass.

"We pushed each other, just to make sure that we would never stop. And we never did stop. That moment lifting the Premier League bonded us for life. He will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. I wouldn't say he is easy to manage, but he is also not difficult to manage. You [only] have problems with Mo Salah if he is not playing or you take him off."

Such issues emerged when Slot dropped Salah from the starting line-up, though the disagreements quickly faded, with the Dutch manager acknowledging he had resolved matters.

Now, Salah is poised to depart the club as a genuine legend, and his heartfelt farewell video concluded with this: "I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present.

"And to the fans: I don't have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It's something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always.

"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
