54-year-old manager becomes leading contender for Crystal Palace job; they could steal him from …

Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace could be set to battle it out for a "brilliant" manager, who has been identified as one of the top targets to replace Oliver Glasner.

Palace searching for new manager with Glasner set to leave

Glasner managed to sign off in perfect fashion before the international break, with his side securing a 2-1 victory at AEK Larnaca, which booked their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Conference League.

After the win in Cyprus, the 51-year-old said: “I will go home to Austria, relaxing in the mountains at the weekend – and then, prepare for Fiorentina.

“I never made the second step before the first one, because then it's not the best thing to do. Fiorentina is a very traditional team, great team in Italy, and that's what we are now looking forward to and preparing,

“We want the best outcome, but it's not just in the Conference League – we're still in a very good situation in the Premier League. We're doing better and better, so that's why we're really looking forward to the two months we have to play.”

Although it has been a tough campaign for Palace at times, having to deal with Marc Guehi's departure in the January transfer window, another historic season could still be in store, with the first leg against Fiorentina to come on April 9th.

Following Guehi's exit, bringing in a new centre-back may well be on the agenda this summer, at which point Steve Parish & co will also have to appoint a new manager, given that Glasner is set to leave, and they have now identified a new major target.

"Brilliant" manager now leading contender to replace Glasner

According to a report from Football Insider, Sean Dyche has now emerged as a leading contender for the Crystal Palace job, with the 54-year-old available after being sacked by Nottingham Forest back in February.

Tottenham are now facing a threat in the race for Dyche's signature, with the north Londoners recently holding talks about bringing him in as a replacement for interim boss Igor Tudor, who has won just one of seven matches in charge.

Lauded as "brilliant" by Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Rob Edwards, the Englishman has plenty of experience in the Premier League, winning 99 top flight matches across spells with Forest, Everton and Burnley.

In the 2017-18 campaign, the ex-Burnley boss led the Clarets to Europe, courtesy of a seventh-place finish, which suggests he could have the pedigree to replace Glasner in the Crystal Palace dugout.

That said, the Kettering-born manager has spent large parts of his career battling near the bottom of the Premier League table, leading Everton to safety on the final day of the 2022-23 campaign, before being sacked in January 2025, with the Toffees just one point above the bottom three.

As such, Dyche may not be the most exciting of appointments for Crystal Palace, and they are now considering a move for a shock alternative...
