FC Basel president David Degan announces plans to hire Manchester United talent scouts Andreas Herrmann and Marko Filipovic.
A vast number of changes have been made to Manchester United’s scouting and recruitment departments since Ineos took control of football operations at the beginning of 2014.
Jason Wilcox steers the ship as football director, responsible for most major decisions made in the football department. He has had an influence on several hires, including Ruben Amorim and former Man City academy head of coaching Darren Hughes.
With the 2025/26 season almost upon us, United will be planning for the summer transfer window. There are now strong claims that two experienced scouts are on the verge of leaving Old Trafford.

On the official FC Basel podcast, Degan named Andreas Herrmann and Marko Filipovic from United as contenders to reshape the future of the Swiss outfit.
According to Christopher Michel, who claims the deal has not been finalised yet, Herrmann is set to become Technical Director, and Marko Filipovic will take the role of Head Scout.
Herrmann spent 10 years as a scout for United and most recently worked as head scout for youth development until March 2025.
On the other hand, Filipovic has been working in United’s youth academy since 2016.

Andreas Herrmann recommended Jamal Musiala swoop
The transfer failings made by United under the Glazers’ previous structure are well documented, but this news means the club will be losing a figure who spotted Jamal Musiala’s talent at the age of 15.
Herrmann recommended Musiala, but the club were concerned about the risks of doing such a deal.
Musiala is now one of the best players for Germany and Bayern Munich.
FC Basel will be eager to take advantage of Herrmann’s eye for talent in a way United weren’t always able to.
