5 Players Who Could LEAVE Newcastle United in the Summer

The 2025/26 Premier League season has been a difficult one for Newcastle United. After a turbulent summer window dominated by the Alexander Isak saga, the Magpies have struggled to make positive headways in the current campaign.

The Mags are 12th in the league table, 12 points away from the Champions League spots – with just seven games left to play, their chances of securing European football next season are growing increasingly remote.

With that in mind, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a mini-exodus in NE1 in the coming months. Here are five Newcastle stars who could leave the club over the course of the summer transfer window.

Kieran Trippier

Kieran Trippier has been a phenomenal servant to Newcastle over the years. With over 100 Premier League appearances in a black and white shirt, it’ll be sad to see him take his leave – but at 35 years of age, it is probably time to close the curtains on his stint at St. James’.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man is out of contract in the summer. With no new deal in sight, it looks likely that he will depart the club for pastures new at the end of June.

Even at his age, Trippier has still led a respectable campaign with the Toon, making 18 Premier League appearances and notching up a solitary assist along the way.

Anthony Gordon

Losing Anthony Gordon would be a bitter blow for Newcastle – he has been one of their most important attacking players for well over two years now. Nevertheless, we can’t ignore the presence of the circling vultures.

He has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer. The Reds have been interested in him previously – as they look to rebuild after a disastrous season, they could turn their attention back to the former Everton star.

This season hasn’t been Gordon’s best, with six goals and two assists in the Premier League, but Liverpool’s interest in the player persists nonetheless.

Fabian Schar

Fabian Schar has been at Newcastle United for almost eight years – he is one of the longest-serving members of the squad, but all good things must come to an end at some point.

Schar is now 34 years of age – furthermore, the Swiss international is also out of contract at the end of the current season.

Sadly, that is not the end of Schar’s issues. He suffered a major ankle injury and was forced to undergo surgery to correct it – at this late stage in his career, such an injury can be a death knell.

Emil Krafth

Emil Krafth is in a similar situation to Fabian Schar, though his is much more prominent. Having spent almost the entire season out with an injury, this has been a running theme for the Swedish international during his time in the North-East.

Kraft joined Newcastle back in 2019 – almost seven years ago – but has made just 84 Premier League appearances during this time. In the current campaign, Krafth has made a meagre three appearances across all competitions.

His contract is up in the summer. We’d be very surprised if he was offered a new deal, given his lack of gametime – it’s time for the Toon to cut their losses.

Sandro Tonali

Losing Sandro Tonali would be a bitter blow for the Toon. He’s very popular at St. James’ Park, but it is starting to look less like a possibility and more like a probability with each passing day.

He has previously been linked with Arsenal, whose interest in the player persists – however, Manchester United and Manchester City have also recently thrown their hats into the ring.

When clubs of their stature come knocking, they’re hard to ignore. His agent, Giuseppe Riso, seems keen for him to depart the club [via TalkSPORT] – sadly, footballers themselves have little agency in these sorts of situations.
