Casemiro is said to be close to agreeing his next move, putting an end to speculation of a Manchester United U-turn. His future has become arguably the biggest talking point at United following the resurgence under Michael Carrick.
Despite announcing in January that he will leave when his contract expires in June, many fans - and some of his team-mates - have campaigned for him to sign an extension.
It has since emerged that won't be the case and the player will leave as planned. However, he'll do so on good terms after United reached an agreement to terminate one clause in his contract that could have soured the relationship.
The Brazil international, who joined United in 2022 in a £60million deal (plus £10m in add-ons), would have triggered an automatic one-year extension if he started 35 Premier League games this season. He is currently on course to cross that threshold, which could have complicated his departure.
That being said, the club has since agreed to waive the clause ahead of this summer's separation. And it means Carrick will be able to start one of his most valuable assets as often as he likes in the end-of-season run-in without fear of sparking tensions regarding his future.
The Manchester Evening News reported this agreement was reached in January. Furthermore, the suggestion is that Casemiro is very close to agreeing his next move, which will be announced in due course.
The 34-year-old has started in all but one of his 29 league outings so far this term. That means he needs to earn just six more starts from the remaining seven matchdays in order to hit the mark.

However, it's now seemingly a non-issue as Casemiro seeks to end his Old Trafford tenure on a high note. That won't involve any sort of silverware, though firing the club back into the Champions League for the first time since 2023 would be a major feat of its own.
It gives Carrick free licence to utilise a player who has been at the crux of United's rebirth in recent months. The interim manager is ticking all the right boxes to earn the permanent gig after replacing Ruben Amorim on temporary terms in January.

It's also understood United are hard at work trying to recruit their Casemiro replacement in time for the summer. And Carrick's experience working alongside Casemiro will give him a key indicator of what he's looking for in a new midfield anchor.
Casemiro has been linked with a return to Brazil or a move to Saudi Arabia once he departs Old Trafford. However, Major League Soccer outfits are also understood to be vying for his signature as he prepares to head to North America for World Cup 2026 this summer.
