Thomas Tuchel raised eyebrows when selecting Steele for the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, with a view to him being the training goalkeeper at the World Cup.
Hinshelwood, who is part of the England Under-21s squad, says the 35-year-old will fit nicely into Tuchel’s group.
And he might be a secret weapon in the darts tournaments that have become a staple of England’s tournaments.
“Firstly, his quality is unbelievable. I think people don’t know that,” the 20-year-old said. “His quality as a keeper, with his feet and his shot-stopping ability is also incredible.
“So he’s also an unbelievable player and he deserves it. But he’s a great guy and a big leader for us in the changing room.
“He’s always quite vocal before a game, whether that’s giving advice or just trying to gee up the lads a bit.
“And he’s such a well-respected figure as well, annoyingly good at darts.
“He’s frightening. He’s really good, 180s – they’re just casual for him.”
Steele was not among the players picked out by darts ace Luke Littler when he visited the senior England camp.
The double world champion had dinner with the players before hosting the Three Lions Darts Championship at their Burton base on Tuesday night.
Despite Phil Foden hitting a 180 in the final, Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale became camp champion to leave Littler impressed.
But Steele has been on point on a daily basis with his work around the training ground at Lancing.
Hinshelwood said: “He really pushes the standards at Brighton and he’s great for the young lads and he provides that experience in the changing room.
“I think that’s exactly what he’ll bring here. He’s a great guy to be around. He’ll push training. I think he can be a big asset.”
Hinshelwood is part of the under-21s squad which will continue their qualification campaign for the 2027 European Championship with matches against Andorra on Friday and Moldova on Tuesday.
