Manchester United are targeting some major deals in the summer transfer window

Casemiro is set to depart Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the season, and the Brazilian’s pathway to exiting the club has been made easier amidst latest reports regarding a clause in his contract.

The 34-year-old had a clause contained in his £350,000-per-week contract which stated that if he started 35 Premier League matches this season, an automatic one-year extension would be triggered until 2027.

But reports by Manchester Evening News state that club and player mutually decided to ‘waive the clause’ in January, during the talks which led to the player publicly announcing his impending departure. Casemiro has started 28 league games this season and has become a key player under Michael Carrick, meaning he is still on course to reach 35 starts by the end of the season with seven matches left to play – but he will still leave the club this summer, as things stand.

Fabrizio Romano: Mainoo and Maguire close in on new deals

Meanwhile, a key Old Trafford pair are getting closer to securing new deals with the club, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire have both shone under Carrick and both are set to be rewarded with new contracts as a result. Academy graduate Mainoo is set to see his wage more than quadruple to £120,000-per-week as per talkSPORT, while Maguire sees his current deal run out this summer but could sign a new one-year deal with an option until 2028. Jadon Sancho, however, will leave the club this summer.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “First, to Jadon Sancho. As I mentioned recently, United consider the story over. The loan to Aston Villa will be followed by a free exit this summer. United won’t trigger the contract extension option because it’s too expensive and the player is not in their plans.

“Then, quick confirmation on Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo. Maguire’s new deal – almost done, valid until 2027, with an additional year option to 2028. And Kobbie Mainoo – negotiations for his new long-term contract are in the final stages. Target is to get everything signed before the end of this season – a five-year deal until June 2031, with improved salary and key role guaranteed. Both sides are optimistic – it’s almost there. United see Mainoo’s renewal as a priority for the future.”
