Club talking themselves into signing Manchester United flop–Manager can solve biggest issue

Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund are talking themselves into signing Jadon Sancho on a free transfer from Manchester United this summer, with the pluses outweighing the negatives.

SportBILD report that Dortmund are edging closer to a second reunion with Sancho, and inside the club, confidence is quietly rising.

Despite a difficult loan spell at Aston Villa, Dortmund have been analysing Sancho in detail. And the verdict is a surprising one; Sancho should be signed again this summer.

Marco Reus support

Former teammate Marco Reus is also keen on the idea. In fact, he has even gone public with his support of bringing Sancho back, something which may carry weight.

“My advice to Jadon is primarily to look for a place where he feels comfortable again and can rediscover his game. And if that’s at BVB, then it would be good for both him and Dortmund!” he told SportBILD.

He is convinced that Sancho can help Dortmund again, despite his current difficulties. The forward is struggling at Aston Villa, who he joined from Manchester United in the summer. That comes after struggling at Chelsea last season also.

“I’ve rarely played with a player who instinctively made such good decisions in tight situations,” added Reus.

“He was sometimes quiet and introspective, but he still radiated good cheer. Aside from his assists and goals, he knows what the game needs and what his teammates need.

“He’s a player who draws two or three defenders to him and can accurately assess when to involve his teammates at the right moments.”

Dortmund analysis

SportBILD report that Dortmund’s bosses have come to the same conclusion. Their data highlights Sancho’s exceptional tight-space control a pressure resistance.

The problem in England, according to them, is that he does this in midfield, too far from goal. They believe he can flourish again in the Bundesliga.

They also feel that Sancho needs to get back into better physical condition. But this is not seen as a problem. Instead, manager Niko Kovac could be the ideal manager for him.

He has a wealth of experience in this area and the club recently ordered 15 new exercise bikes, costing €30,000, on his request. The results speak for themselves, Dortmund’s players are considerably fitter under the Croatian. Sancho could benefit the same way.

Financial framework

But financial sacrifices will have to be made on his part. Dortmund are firm on this point and won’t move. Their offer will be:

€5m base salary

Performance-based bonuses

No signing bonuses

They also expect ‘humility’ from Sancho. Early indications from the Manchester United man, and presumably his camp, is that he is ready to meet those expectations.

Dortmund also see benefits off the pitch. Sancho’s brief return in 2024 boosted shirt sales noticeably. With Karim Adeyemi potentially leaving this summer, Dortmund need a new face for their marketing. Sancho fits that role perfectly.

Reunion closer than ever

If Jadon Sancho wants the move and shows the right attitude, Dortmund are prepared.

They’ve slowly talked themselves into the deal, considering the football logic, financial logic and commercial logic thoroughly. As far as they’re now concerned, there’s only upsides.
