Supporters Head to St James’s Park For The First Game After Newcastle United’s Takeover
NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 17: Newcastle United fans head to St James’ Park football stadium ahead of the match against Tottenham Hotspur and the first game following the club’s takeover on October 17, 2021 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. A Saudi Arabian-backed £305m takeover of Newcastle United has been completed after the Premier League approved a takeover after receiving assurances that the Saudi state would not control the club. The Public Investment Fund (PIF), fronted by Financier Amanda Staveley, will provide 80% of funds for the deal. The sale went through after the deal passed the Premier League owners’ and directors’ test and brings to an end Mike Ashley’s 14-year spell as Newcastle United owner. PIF have assets of £250bn, making Newcastle one of the richest clubs in the world. (Photo by Ian Forsyth/Getty Images)
