Michael Carrick is in contention for the Man United job after his successful spell in interim charge.

Several world-class managers have been linked with the United job, including Unai Emery, Julian Nagelsmann, and Luis Enrique, but there is a new name that has emerged.

Man United remain keen on Bournemouth’s Iraola

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iralola also has an uncertain future ahead of the summer, as he hasn’t yet revealed whether he will extend his stay at the Vitality Stadium, as his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

The 43-year-old Spaniard has been at Bournemouth for the past three seasons after he joined from Spanish side Rayo Vallecano. He has done a superb job at Bournemouth, playing attractive football and developing young talents such as Antoine Semenyo, Dean Huijsen, Ilya Zabarnyi and Justin Kluivert.

According to The Mirror, he remains on Man United’s radar to become their permanent manager, although he is a man in demand. Tottenham are also interested in the Spaniard should they stay in the Premier League, and Crystal Palace are also reportedly keen, as Oliver Glasner is set to leave at the end of the season.

During his time at Bournemouth, Iraola has won 44 games in 120, accumulating around 1.39 points per game, which is a solid record for a fairly small Premier League club. He has had them hovering close to the European football places.

Rooney backs Carrick for the United job

Iraola is one of several top managers who United could pick should they opt against making Carrick their permanent manager, but many believe that the current interim will claim the job heading into next season.

“I’ve felt that from the minute that he was mentioned as going in, not because we played together and we’re friends, I just think he’s a real calming influence.

“What I have spoken about a lot is that I’ve got two boys in the academy, there was a massive disconnect from the academy and first team, and immediately what we’ve seen is this connection come back together, which Man United was known for, it was known to be a family club, and Michael has done that in a very short space of time, there’s a real interest in the academy again.”
