Dimitar Berbatov ‘prefers’ what’s happening with Benjamin Sesko now, Amorim unintentionally helped him

Benjamin Sesko has slowly established himself as a key player for Man Utd’s present and the future, and Dimitar Berbatov’s assessment of him means he was inadvertently helped by Ruben Amorim.

This has been a season of two halves for Benjamin Sesko, as his struggles under Ruben Amorim have given way to a flourish under Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick.

Sesko has found a prolific streak under Carrick, be it from the bench or starting a game, and the confidence is clear to see.

Dimitar Berbatov says this slow burn for Sesko at Old Trafford has actually helped him.

Benjamin Sesko’s slow start at Man Utd managed expectations

Being the No. 9 for Man Utd comes with an immense set of expectations that have chewed up and spat out many players in the past.

Rasmus Hojlund was the same, and he started slowly too, just like Sesko.

The difference is that Sesko slowly found his groove and didn’t stop trying things even when he wasn’t scoring, so the goal, when it arrived, completed his game.

Berbatov said the slow start to his career at United helped Sesko calm down the initial noise and expectations, which could have buried him under their weight.

Speaking on the Inside Carrington podcast, he said: “Right now, things are getting good for him [Sesko]. Things are working out slowly for him.

“I prefer it like this because I want him to slowly but surely get that confidence, get those goals, because they are connected. He is finding his position in the team, bringing the threat and fear factor.”

Ruben Amorim unintentionally helped Sesko

It might not look like it right now, but had Sesko flown off the blocks for United under Ruben Amorim, a single dry spell could have seen people write obituaries for his career.

Will Benjamin Sesko WIN the “Sesko vs Hojlund” debate?

Is there even a debate to be had or has he already won it?

United, as a club, have always dealt in extremes, but Sesko’s slow start was at least written off as a period of adaptation by many.

Sure, there was still criticism, but it doesn’t compare to the surprise that he has been because his slow start had managed expectations.

If anything, Amorim’s coaching is coming under more scrutiny instead of Sesko’s talent, because the player started scoring as soon as Amorim left.

Basically, Amorim was so bad that he provided a cover for Sesko, managed early expectations, and paved the way for an eventual breakout looking even rosier.

Granted, the Portuguese manager would have liked all of this to happen under his management, so his help to Sesko has been entirely unintentional.

None of what Berbatov prefers would have happened had Sesko not struggled under Amorim.
