Cherries aiming to 'put things right' and defeat Plymouth in cup final - Hennessy

Hennessy, who won the cup last season with Nottingham Forest, believes Bournemouth’s performance in their 2-1 defeat to Argyle in the league on Sunday was good, and they’ll be out to flip that result this weekend.

“Naturally after the game we were disappointed, but we were more disappointed with the result, not the performance,” she told the Daily Echo.

“Because everyone thought we played well, but just certain things didn't bounce right for us.

“But since being in yesterday, we had a good training session, a lot of fun, and it was good to get us all in around each other, because we're all feeling the same feelings, like we're disappointed, but we're raring to go on Saturday again.

“We just have to stick together and just do what Blez says really, and we back Blez and management.

“So if they tell us to do anything, we'll do it. We just really want to win on Saturday and put things right again.”

Hennessy and teammate Phoebe Williams both have experience of winning the cup, and both will help the rest of the squad to prepare for what’s to come.

“I was lucky enough to win it last year with Nottingham Forest, so I have that kind of experience in my back pocket and I know what the day is going to bring and the nerves that come with it and all that,” she explained.

“But at the same time, it's an unbelievable atmosphere in the final and girls in the team as well, Phoebe [Williams] has played and won it twice.

“So we'll get around the team and tell them that it's a great atmosphere on the day, and naturally you're going to be feeling nervous, that's what a final is about, but anything can happen on the day, so yeah, it's just going to be a really good day for all of us.”

Asked how important it is to prepare for everything else that comes with a cup final beyond just what happens on the pitch, Hennessy said the dressing room will draw on all their experience to best prepare.

She said: “For those younger girls that probably haven't been in high-pressurised situations like finals or tough games like that, we’ll get all around them and keep building them up and just get their confidence up after Sunday, even though I don't think we're lacking in confidence after that game because it was a really good game and we played really well.”

“I think the morale of the group is still really good and we're being positive about the whole thing.

“It's only like one game. It's not the end of the world. And I think on Sunday, we were very evenly matched throughout the pitch.

“So I just think some things just didn't work for us, the ball didn't bounce right for us in certain situations and things happened that would never really happen to us.

“We're just excited to put it right on Saturday.”

Tickets for Saturday's final at Loftus Road can be purchased on the QPR website.
