Newcastle United contracts: Lewis Miley’s deal at St James’ Park is understood to run until 2029.
Newcastle United want to act on their determination to keep hold of 19-year-old star Lewis Miley by securing him to a new long-term deal.
While Miley is understood to have several years left on his current deal, the club are keen to reward the teenager for his more prominent role in the side.
The midfielder has been out injured since January but had been one of the most important players in Eddie Howe’s side having slotted in and impressed at right-back and also briefly at centre-back during a defensive injury crisis.
His ability, versatility and potential make him one of the club’s biggest assets. But the more Miley impresses at Newcastle, the more questions there will be about his future in a transfer landscape dictated by PSR and profits, where selling academy players is effectively promoted through the rules.
Fabrizio Romano provides Lewis Miley contract update
Transfer narrative expert Fabrizio Romano claimed via X that Newcastle are in talks regarding a new deal with Miley amid ‘strong interest’ from ‘top clubs’.
Romano wrote: “Newcastle are in talks for a new contract with Lewis Miley, negotiations on.
“Young, talented midfielder is of strong interest to several top clubs; #NUFC want to give the home town player a new deal and build into the future with him as a main player in the team.”

NUFC ‘determined’ to keep Lewis Miley
Having been stung by PSR and the sale of academy graduate Elliot Anderson previously, Howe has already publicly expressed his determination to keep Miley at the club long-term.
“I think there are definite parallels there between Lewy and Elliot, although they’ve had different journeys,” Howe said. “The Elliot situation I’ve commented on a lot, and probably shouldn’t comment on that anymore but I think from Lewy’s perspective, I am determined to keep him here.
“I am determined for him to have the career at Newcastle that I think he can have and have the effect he can have long-term and become synonymous really with the football club for many years to come.”
Newcastle are hoping to have Miley back in action after the international break after two months on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
