Kai Rooney played a key role as Manchester United's Under-16s secured an impressive 2-0 Premier League Shield victory on Tuesday. The teenager was cheered on by his father Wayne and mother Coleen at the match.
In what has already been a memorable year for the club's academy, United lifted the trophy at Carrington after dominating Burnley. The winning squad featured several recognisable surnames.
Kai, who has been shining for the Under-18s, returned to the younger age group for the final, lining up alongside the likes of Michael Carrick's son Jacey and Silva Mexes, the son of Robert Earnshaw.
A photograph of the 16-year-old with a medal draped around his neck was shared on United legend Wayne's social media, with both he and his wife present to back their son. Youngest brother Cass was also there to see the triumph.
Kai has enjoyed an outstanding year thus far, netting goals for the Under-18s while being handed his first scholarship within the club's youth set-up. He will be eligible to sign a professional contract next season.
The Under-18s have also progressed to the semi-final stage of the FA Youth Cup, as well as the final of the Premier League Cup, with Kai anticipated to be involved during these upcoming fixtures.

This Premier League Shield success serves as a declaration of ambition for the young players and United's youth squads in general. It appears that the academy is cultivating some bright prospects and Kai could be adding more silverware to his personal haul in the near future should he continue to star.
Kai has also inked a deal with Triple S Sports. This agency maintains a long-standing relationship with his father and boasts several stars, including Harry Maguire, among its clientele.
However, despite this surge in fame, his mum Coleen concedes that Kai is accustomed to the spotlight due to his famous surname. Speaking to The Times, she said: "He's lived it from a young age.

"When we used to go to matches when he was younger and he'd get a lot of people coming up saying, 'Oh, are you Wayne Rooney's son?'
"But he is strong-minded and he always has been. I've got no worries about the way he deals with it. It's nice that we know what to expect.
"And we can try to guide him. Obviously, it's his life, his passion. He can decide what he wants to do. But I think it's good we've got the knowledge."
