Alejandro Garnacho has been convicted of speeding away from Manchester United's training ground, just days before his £40m move to Chelsea.

Garnacho completed his £40million transfer to Chelsea on August 30 last year, having been consigned to a 'bomb squad' under former Man United head coach Ruben Amorim.

Amorim had told Garnacho to 'pray' to find a new club after the 21-year-old had criticised the decision to start him on the bench for the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

Just four days prior to completing the move, Garnacho triggered a speed camera close to Man United's Carrington base when driving his Audi RS 3.

The winger was found to have been driving at 50mph in a 40mph zone.

He had been caught by the speed camera at 5.51pm on August 26 on Carrington Lane, near to the entrance to the training ground.

Garnacho pleaded guilty to the offence, admitting he felt 'embarrassed' to be in the position

Garnacho pleaded guilty to the speeding offence at Liverpool Magistrates' Court, issuing an apology through his lawyers.

'Mr Garnacho accepts that he committed the offence of exceeding the speed limit and has pleaded guilty to the offence,' his lawyers at JMW Solicitors wrote.

'Mr Garnacho explains this was an oversight on his part and apologises for the offence.

'Our Client is embarrassed that he is currently in this position and apologises to the Court for the excess speed offence.'

Garnacho had also been charged with failing to respond to a letter about the speeding offence, having been asked to identify the driver of the car in October.

He was sentenced with a £660 fine, with an order to pay £120 in costs and a £264 victim surcharge as well as having three penalty points added to his licence.

Garnacho left Man United after making 144 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists.

The Argentina international, who had come through Man United's academy, has made 36 appearances to date during his debut season at Chelsea.

Garnacho has scored seven times for the Blues to date, as well as providing four assists.
