West Ham are currently fighting to secure their Premier League status this season
Team GB athlete Keely Hodgkinson has aimed a cheeky jibe at West Ham amid the Premier League club’s threat to block the London Stadium holding the World Athletics Championships in 2029. The Hammers have leased the stadium since 2016. If the games went ahead in three years, they would have to vacate the ground for three weeks.
The door could now open the door for Rome, Munich or Nairobi to host instead of London. Hogkinson has taken to X to send the following message regarding the matter: “The GB team will bring back more medals to that stadium than West Ham have seen in their entire history.”

Hogkinson, 24, is a lifelong Manchester United supporter. She was invited on the pitch at Old Trafford back in 2024 after she won the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo. She was born in Atherton, Greater Manchester.
West Ham’s lost trophy came in 2023 when they won the Europa Conference League under ex-manager David Moyes. They are now fighting to secure their top flight status. The Hammers are in the drop zone along with Wolves and Burnley.
They are a point from safety behind Tottenham Hotspur with only seven fixtures left to play before the end of the season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were beaten 2-0 away by Aston Villa last time out before the international break. They are back in action on Sunday 5th April with their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Leeds United as they look to return to winning ways.
Speaking after West Ham’s loss to Villa, Nuno said: “We lost against a good team. That’s a fact, but we were not good enough today. Our performance was not good and in the first half we didn’t play good. We arrived late in the duels. We didn’t press as well as we should have done. We were never comfortable in the game.
“We improved slightly in the second half, but not enough to change the dynamic of the game. We’ve been performing well and you can see the fans, they were there and today we disappointed them and that is what hurts us the most. We have to realise that we have to do much better.”
