Beşiktaş target another Aston Villa defender – Contact made with Villa, offer being prepared

Pau Torres

Beşiktaş have accelerated their early summer transfer plans and identified Aston Villa centre-back Pau Torres as a priority target to strengthen their defence next season.

AS report that sources inside the Turkish club say that Beşiktaş have formally expressed their interest in the 29-year-old Spaniard.

Early communication has taken place with the player’s representatives. This is a signal that the Istanbul side are seriously about pushing the deal forwards.

Beşiktaş request financial details from Villa

Alongside talks with Pau Torres’ camp, Beşiktaş have also contacted Aston Villa to request clarity on the financial framework of a potential transfer.

That would likely include the expected fee and the conditions under which Unai Emery’s side would consider a sale. The two clubs have a good working relationship following the deal for Tammy Abraham in January.

Aston Villa paid €33m for Torres in 2023 and Transfermarkt currently value him at €22m. His current contract runs until 2028.

According to AS, the Turkish giants are preparing to submit an official bid once the season concludes. For now, it appears that they are simply laying the groundwork for a potential deal.

Aston Villa with a decision to make

Whether Aston Villa will welcome it, remains to be seen. Torres has been a key player for Emery since arriving three years ago, with 100 appearances to date.

But injuries have marked the last two seasons, limiting him to just 17 Premier League appearances this season and only half of the available minutes played. Last season saw him miss 14 games and 63 days with a metatarsal injury.

In fact, he has missed at least six games every season with the Villans so far. That’s cause issues for Emery, particularly with Tyrone Mings also regularly picking up injuries.

At 29-years-old, this could be an ideal time to sell Torres, recoup a good amount of money and sign a younger profile in the process. That, though, will depend on what Beşiktaş are willing to offer. For now, the Turkish side are just asking the question.
