Alan Stubbs reacts as Tim Howard shares 'disgusting' rule he introduced at Everton

Landon Donovan spent time with Everton across two separate stints in 2010 and 2012.

The American remains a fan favourite thanks to his efforts at Goodison Park – where he scored two goals and provided nine assists in 22 appearances.

Donovan also still keeps in touch with Phil Neville and Tim Howard – with the trio now reminiscing about a “disgusting” story from their time at Everton while chatting on the Unfiltered Soccer podcast.

Seven games left and on 46 points – how many points do you expect Everton to finish on? 🤔

Tim Howard accuses Alan Stubbs of implementing open door toilet policy at Everton

The former Everton trio spent over two minutes discussing a rule they had at Finch Farm, in which you were not allowed to close the door of the toilet cubicle when going for a number two – for whatever reason.

If you did close the door, it wouldn’t be long until you were soaked in water.

After Donovan spoke about how he first got drenched while on the loo at Everton, Howard explained: “So Alan Stubbs – I think it was Stubbsy – made this rule, and who knows why the rule was made, that if you went into the stall, and the door was closed, they would pour water over the top. You had to have the door open.”

Donovan replied that it was “so stupid” – as Neville added that he “thought it was the most disgusting thing” – before the trio cracked up laughing about the rule.

How Alan Stubbs reacted to the accusation

Giulia Bould of the BBC tagged Stubbs on X (previously known as Twitter) to share the footage with the former Everton man.

The 54-year-old responded with three emojis, one with arms raised as if to say ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about’ before adding another two which displayed a raised middle finger and then a laughing face.

Stubbs was clearly the one who introduced the rule, and we can only wonder if it still exists today at Finch Farm.
