Deal on: Fabrizio Romano says Newcastle have opened talks with player wanted by 'several top…

Newcastle United are in talks to extend midfielder Lewis Miley’s contract amid interest from several top clubs, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The St James’ Park side are looking to secure the future of the highly-rated 19-year-old, whose current deal runs until the summer of 2029.

Newcastle are believed to be looking to reward Miley with improved terms and see him as a key part of the squad for the future, following the midfielder’s promising performances this season.

Miley has been out injured since January, but Newcastle hope to have the 19-year-old back in action after the international break.

Romano, writing on X, revealed that Newcastle are in negotiations over a new deal for Miley amid interest from multiple top sides.

Prior to his knee injury in January, Miley had been one of the most important players in Eddie Howe’s side during a defensive injury crisis, when he slotted in at right-back and impressed.

The 'incredible' 19-year-old has so far made 30 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Newcastle are facing a difficult summer transfer window, as the futures of midfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are coming into question amid strong interest from Premier League clubs.

Guimaraes is believed to be of interest to Manchester United, who see the Newcastle captain as a direct replacement for Casemiro, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Tonali, meanwhile, is also reported to be on United’s radar, as well as Arsenal’s, who were linked with a surprise move for the Italian during the closing stages of the winter transfer window.

Manchester United appear to have serious interest in landing Guimaraes after the season, having recently met with the Brazilian’s agents.

According to Romano, United’s representatives met with Guimaraes’ camp in recent weeks as they continue to assess their options ahead of the summer.

Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position for the 28-year-old midfielder, who is under contract until the summer of 2028.

The Magpies proved difficult negotiators last summer, when it took almost two months for Liverpool to convince them to sell forward Alexander Isak in a British record deal worth £125m.
