Kai Rooney suffers devastating blow days after Man United trophy glory

Kai Rooney has revealed that he has been ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up an injury.

The son of Manchester United icon Wayne was part of the club's U16 side that won the Premier League Shield just days ago.

Rooney featured as the young Red Devils side collected some silverware with a 2-0 win over Burnley.

His dad, Wayne, and his mum, Colleen, were in attendance to proudly watch the game at Man United's training ground, Carrington.

However, not long after the success, Kai announced a huge blow.

The 16-year-old posted on social media to reveal the news that he would not be playing again this season.

He wrote on his Instagram story: "Disappointed to be out for the rest of the season. Back stronger next pre-season."

His post included a black-and-white image of himself with his head down, while a red love heart accompanied the caption.

Rooney will now be absent for the rest of Man United's U16s' campaign, along with the U18 side too.

He had been promoted up to the U18 set-up due to his form and was part of their Youth Cup squad earlier this month.

United won their quarter-final at Old Trafford, meaning they are just two wins away from getting their hands on the trophy.

But now Rooney won't be able to play a part in that journey.

Highs and lows

Rooney had his legendary dad in attendance as he helped Man United's U16s win some silverware on Tuesday.

Wayne posted a picture of his family with Kai, who had a medal around his neck, on Instagram after the game.

The Premier League icon's caption included a medal emoji and a love heart, while he also tagged his son.

But just two days after, Kai confirmed his appearance in that cup final would be his last for the season.

Rooney's career so far

Rooney has been a star of Man United's academy at the start of his career, scoring goals and rising up through the ranks.

The teenage forward netted plenty of goals for the U16s and was rewarded with a jump up to the U18 side this year.

He has continued that form playing at the higher level, and in February, he was offered a mega new deal at the club.

The Red Devils handed Kai a one-year scholarship to start, which will then switch to a three-year contract.

That is expected to be worth a huge £50,000 a year on top of an annual signing-on bonus.
