Roy Keane has identified a player he believes England should have called up ahead of Leeds United’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tottenham Hotspur’s Dominic Solanke.
Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel is set to use tomorrow’s (March 27) friendly against Uruguay as an opportunity to test out some of his fringe players.
Calvert-Lewin has been handed a recall nearly five years on from his last international appearance and could feature.
He has enjoyed a return to form since his move to Leeds last summer, registering 10 goals in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old has been called up alongside Solanke, who last featured for England in 2024.

Roy Keane’s verdict
On the Stick to Football podcast, Arsenal legend Ian Wright said: “Solanke is in, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, I’m pleased for Dominic.”
Fellow pundit Keane, however, responded by insisting Brighton & Hove Albion marksman Danny Welbeck is a better player than the pair.
He said: “I think Welbeck’s better than them two.”
Gary Neville and Jill Scott both weighed in to say they believed Welbeck was going to make the squad.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s comeback
It has been quite the journey for Calvert-Lewin, who struggled with injury and form after a goal-laden period at Everton.
He tumbled down the England pecking order and looked to have won the last of his international caps.
However, he looks to have regained confidence since becoming the focal point in the Leeds attack.

“I think success is never really in a straight line. I think setbacks are inevitable in football and I’ve faced a fair share of my own, so I’m definitely pleased to be here.
“I’ve been in pretty good form this season. I never expected it, I would say, but I was hopeful.”
