Mika Godts

Manchester United have been warned they’re targeting the wrong player in Ajax’s Mika Godts, particularly when comparing him to Desire Doué.
Dutch analyst René van der Gijp, via Voetbal Zone, is not impressed with the 20-year-old. He has been linked to Manchester United this month.
Manchester United contact
A report on the 17th of March stated that Manchester United had taken the first steps towards signing Godts this summer.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Manchester United had made contact with Ajax over the forward ahead of a potential move this summer.
Mika Godts is expected to be one of the breakout names of the summer transfer window, with several top sides monitoring his development.
Godts has enjoyed a breakout season at Ajax, recording 14 goals and 11 assists in 36 games so far this season. In the Eredivisie, he is averaging a goal contribution every 90 minutes.
Analysts unimpressed
But no such contribution came in the 1-1 draw with Feyenoord last weekend. A performance which left Van der Gijp in particular.
“Maybe a wrong impression, absolutely, but on Sunday I was watching that Godts. Doué from Paris Saint-Germain is 84 times better,” he said.
“He really is 84 times better than Godts. And then you read that Godts could go to Manchester United and Chelsea. Those videos you see there of Doué… That is not normal.”
That was a sentiment echoed by writer Michael van Egmond, who says it is worse considering who Godts was up against.
“He played against Feyenoord’s fourth right-back,” he added.
“They actually would have preferred to play with ten men instead of with Lotomba, and yet he had Godts in his pocket. That is not good.”
Will Manchester United listen?
The question is whether Manchester United will listen. Mika Godts absolutely fits into the recruitment strategy under INEOS. They’ve specifically targeted younger profiles with a high ceiling.
Godts ticks those boxes and has the numbers to back up a big spend. That’s even with a disappointing display against Feyenoord. For now, it appears they’ve only made the opening move.
If it was down to Van der Gijp, though, that is as far as they would go this summer.
