Roberto Carlos says Casemiro is good enough to start in his World Cup-winning Brazil team

Roberto Carlos says Casemiro is good enough for Brazil’s iconic 2002 team, which won all seven games en route to a record-extending fifth World Cup trophy.

Casemiro has been a major talking point since the beginning of the year.

It was announced in January that Casemiro would leave Manchester United at the end of the season after his contract expires. The 34-year-old has since been sounded out by Inter Miami, with LA Galaxy also understood to be interested in securing his signature on a free transfer.

There is also a feeling of concern among United fans, knowing Casemiro’s exit will leave a big hole in the squad unless Ineos sign the right midfielders this summer. The Stretford End urged Casemiro to stay in recent weeks.

Roberto Carlos shares ultimate Casemiro compliment

Internationals are the flavour of the month since a break took place for the final round of World Cup qualifiers, as well as multiple friendly matches.

Speaking to Sport TV, Brazil and Real Madrid’s iconic former left-back Roberto Carlos was asked about which players from the current national team would get into his 2002 World Cup-winning side.

When it came to Casemiro, Carlos stressed that the United veteran would not look out of place in his team, which made winning the World Cup look easy.

Considering Kleberson had a place in the team, Casemiro would have no problem starring in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s line-up, especially since he is among the best defensive midfielders of his generation.

Carlos admitted he couldn’t find a place for fellow United star Matheus Cunha ahead of Ronaldo.

He added: “Matheus is a really good guy, a great friend of mine, but Ronaldo is my brother. Our story is also a beautiful one.”

Matheus Cunha can make a name for himself at World Cup in Brazil

Although Ronaldo was a known force before the World Cup in 2002, the competition helped solidify his place in football folklore.

Cunha could become Brazil’s next star if he thrives at the tournament in the summer.

With Casemiro leaving Old Trafford, Cunha could be the only Brazilian in the squad next season.

United fans will be wishing their new forward the best of luck when he’s competing alongside Casemiro this summer.
