Luke Shaw move nears as United get major boost

Manchester United’s left back, Luke Shaw is unfortunately well-known for his multiple injury issues. The club will enter the transfer market in this summer for a first choice left back. The Premier League club is highly concerned about Shaw’s fitness issues and so they want Antonee Robinson as new man in their setup.

Luke Shaw has a big injury history in his Manchester United tenure

The English left back has missed a lot of games in his career. This was due to the consecutive injuries he faced. He was sidelined for so many matches, that his fitness was questioned by the fans and the pundits as well.

If we come to the statistics by Transfermarkt, Luke Shaw has missed more than 260 games till now due to several injuries. He was sidelined for around 1600 days, which is like 5 years approximately. The defender was signed from Southampton on July 2014 for 37.5 million Euros. This tells that out of total 11.5 years he has spent 5 years out of the squad.

His injuries include mostly repetitive hamstring injuries and a huge fracture of tibia and fibula bones of both of his legs in 2015-16 season. This led him to miss 64 games for club and country. Luke was not in touch of football for about 289 days.

Many thought after such an injury, his career will be short lived. But he has been at United for more than 11 years. Over the years, fans and pundits have wondered over the fact that how the Englishman is still at the club. Some believe he should have been sold years earlier.

United wants Antonee Robinson as their left back from the next season

In the starting of the month, a report was published about United and Robinson. It was said that the Red Devils were heavily interested in bringing him to Old Trafford. At the same time it was also written that the USMNT defender had chosen Liverpool as his next club. It was his dream to play at Anfield.

But a recent news from Football Insider has indicated that things have changed. As per the report, Liverpool have opted themselves out of the transfer saga of Robinson. Sources say that he is “not needed” anymore for their present transfer set up. The Merseyside team has started to explore other options in that position.

On the other hand, their arch rivals, Man United has targeted the American star to strengthen their defence. They will do the needful to get the signing of the left back.

Luke Shaw needs to be replaced for the future. The club has most likely plans to play Patrick Dorgu in the attacking front. If they don’t get Robinson, the Old Trafford club may reach out for other options. Recent reports have named Arsenal‘s Myles Lewis-Skelly and Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell as EPL proven players. Outside England, Leipzig’s David Raum is also a possibility.

Why is Antonee Robinson so special?

The American left back started his journey from Everton’s academy. After travelling through the lower ranks of English football, he signed for Fulham from Wigan Athletic for 2.1 million Euros in 2020.

Since then, he has been at Craven Cottage for almost 6 years. Till now, he has played 208 games for Fulham. Last season, he provided a record breaking 10 assists in Premier League.

(Statistics from Sofascore)

Robinson is very quick on the left flank. He can run fast with and without the ball, indicating his defensive contribution. Another important trait of his playstyle is that, the USMNT man can provide accurate crosses into the penalty box.

Antonee is a very key football player for Fulham. His current market value is 25 million Euros. But his current club will not let him go to another club for less amount of money. They will sit for negotiations when the club agrees to reach the valuation of atleast 50 million Euros.
