Leeds United legend Marcelo Bielsa believes Daniel Farke’s side has what it takes to stay in the division. He also remembers his Elland Road stint incredibly fondly.
United are not in action this weekend as the international break takes place. However, there is plenty for Leeds fans to sink our teeth into over the coming days.
Included in that is a mouth-watering matchup between Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s England, and Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay, at Wembley tomorrow night.
Marcelo Bielsa reveals fond Leeds United memories when asked why he’s not returned to West Yorkshire
Bielsa hasn’t been back in West Yorkshire since his dismissal in February 2022. However, this won’t be his first time back in the UK since leaving Leeds.
The Argentine was in talks to take over at both Bournemouth and Everton previously after his tenure here. With Uruguay, he’s looking to show why he’s so revered everywhere he’s been during his distinguished career.
During his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Bielsa was asked why he has not been back to West Yorkshire since his emotional exit in 2022.
“I haven’t returned to Leeds mainly because the feeling of nostalgia is a feeling that sometimes one is resistant to address. And, I experience everything related to my time at that club with nostalgia, I see it as one of the most beautiful memories that football gave me,” Bielsa answered.
Marcelo BIelsa still loves Leeds United as much as we all love him
You do wonder whether such an enigmatic character such as Bielsa has had the lasting emotion from Leeds, in the same way we have of him.
However, this response says it all.
The fact he’s so overwhelmed with nostalgia from his time at Elland Road just goes to show that he loved every minute while he was here. Well, not quite every minute, as this club makes you want to pull your hair out constantly.
It’ll be great to see him in the dugout against England tomorrow. No doubt, Bielsa will be impressed by the work his former rival Farke has done to get Calvert-Lewin into the squad.
