Barcelona not ruling out the sale of homegrown defender amid Man United, Liverpool interest

The upcoming summer transfer window will pose multiple challenges for Barcelona, as they continue to navigate under a tight financial tightrope.

The club desperately need to bring in fresh revenue in order to return to the 1:1 rule and alleviate their economic woes. To that end, the sale of a star player is the need of the hour.

And while the likes of Jules Kounde and Ferran Torres have been linked with a move away from Barcelona, there have been question marks on Alejandro Balde’s future as well.

Barcelona open to selling Balde

According to SPORT, Barcelona are open to selling Balde in the coming summer, but only if the move benefits all parties involved.

The Catalans are aware that Balde’s sale could solve most of the club’s economic woes, thanks to the youngster’s high valuation.

There is no shortage of suitors either, and the report suggests Manchester United and Liverpool could be interested in making a move for the Spaniard.

Barcelona, for their part, consider Balde their first-choice left-back. However, the player has struggled with injury problems in the past and his contract will expire sooner than that of other stars in the team.

This will force Barcelona into offering a renewal that will attract a higher salary. Barça can circumnavigate all this by sanctioning his sale in the coming summer.

However, Balde has shown no desire to leave Barcelona and wants to continue his development at Camp Nou.

This is something respected by Barça and therefore, the club will only consider the defender’s sale if the player himself is on board with the idea.

For now, Balde is currently nursing an injury and is expected to return after the international break. Hansi Flick counts on the Spaniard to be a regular starter once he is back to full fitness.
