Three Man Utd stars who can use Ireland training camp to force Michael Carrick decision

Manchester United’s training camp in Ireland is a chance for fringe players to impress Michael Carrick and challenge for a starting spot.

It was confirmed this week that Manchester United are going on a four-day training camp in Ireland to keep sharp over the international break.

There is currently a 24-day break between Premier League matches for United before they return to action against Leeds United on April 13.

There are 12 United players on international duty over the break, and the rest of the first-team squad will travel to Ireland for the training camp.

Mason Mount

While Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo were called up to the England squad, Mason Mount was left in Manchester.

Mount’s World Cup dreams are over, so the 27-year-old should be putting all of his attention on reviving his United career.

This training camp is a golden opportunity for Mount to impress Carrick and challenge for a starting spot. His biggest competition for places lies with Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha, who both have a busy international period with Portugal and Brazil.

Mount’s best chance of ending the season strong is by impressing in Ireland and competing for a starting spot against Leeds if either Fernandes or Cunha returns to England fatigued.

Joshua Zirkzee

Both Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko pulled out of international duty this week, although the latter will remain with the Slovenia squad as he recovers from a minor injury.

Mbeumo is said to be carrying a slight issue himself. Carrick has rotated between Mbeumo and Sesko as his centre-forward option, but both face a race to return to fitness.

That is a golden opportunity for Joshua Zirkzee to force his way into Carrick’s thinking, and he can use the Ireland training camp to impress the coaching staff.

Zirkzee has been linked with a United exit, so this could be his last chance to save his Old Trafford career.

Tyler Fredricson

Last season, Tyler Fredricson enjoyed a breakthrough season under Ruben Amorim, playing in his 3-4-2-1 system.

In 2025/26, Fredricson has only played two minutes of Premier League football as a late substitute against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Recently, Fredricson returned from injury and is now primed to take part in the Ireland training camp.

Fredricson has been linked with a loan move, so this is a good opportunity for him to impress Carrick and prove he deserves to stick around in the first team.

With Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt still injured and Maguire, Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro all away on international duty, it is a big opportunity for Fredricson to step up.
