Liverpool Legends are back in action against Borussia Dortmund, and the occasion offers plenty of time to reflect on the best moments of all those involved.
It is that time of year again when legendary faces return in a charity match at Anfield, which will even see Sir Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp together in the dugout!
The squad has been assembled, and it is time to have a look at all their respective best moments in a Liverpool shirt.
Goalkeepers
ISTANBUL, TURKEY - WEDNESDAY, MAY 25th, 2005: Liverpool's Jerzy Dudek saves the last penalty to win the European Cup against AC Milan during the UEFA Champions League Final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)
Pepe Reina: The FA Cup final in 2006 immediately springs to mind. An incredibly impressive save in extra time, and then he saved three of West Ham‘s four penalties.
Jerzy Dudek: It cannot be anything other than Istanbul! That double save from Andriy Shevchenko in extra time is still hard to comprehend, and then he got the spaghetti legs out in the shootout.
Sander Westerveld: Another Liverpool goalkeeper who excelled in a cup final shootout. For Westerveld, it was the 2001 League Cup final and the denial of Andy Johnson.
Defenders
LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - TUESDAY APRIL 5th 2005: Liverpool's Sami Hyypia scores the opening goal against Juventus during the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final 1st Leg match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)
Sami Hyypia: Often the first match you think of when Hyypia gets mentioned is against Juventus in 2005; it was a cracking finish for the centre-back.
Martin Skrtel: That 20-minute blitz of Arsenal in 2013/14 was incredible, as was Skrtel’s brace that got it all started – the celebrations were just as fun. What a day.
Ragnar Klavan: If we can’t say the Klavan turn, it has to be the Burnley winner in stoppage time in 2018. The celebrations will make you think Lovren scored, but it was the Estonian!

Martin Kelly: What stands out is the performance at right-back against Man United in 2012, where he kept Ryan Giggs in check in a 2-1 win.
Fabio Aurelio: It has to be the free-kick at Old Trafford in the 4-1 win, doesn’t it? Van der Sar just watches as it flies in, hapless. Pin-point accuracy.
Gregory Vignal: His performance and contribution in the 3-1 Merseyside derby at Goodison in 2001, it felt as though our left-back woes were solved that day as John Arne Riise played further forward.
Midfielders
ISTANBUL, TURKEY - WEDNESDAY, MAY 25th, 2005: Liverpool's Steven Gerrard celebrates scoring the first come-back goal against AC Milan during the UEFA Champions League Final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)
Steven Gerrard: Take your pick! We’ll go with his goal in Istanbul that inspired the comeback and the scenes that followed. A true captain’s performance and one that epitomised his career.
Yossi Benayoun: A player who gave it his all, and the late winner against Real Madrid (2009) at the Bernabeu is what instantly comes to mind. We’ve not won there since.
Vladimir Smicer: His last-ever game for the Reds was undoubtedly the best, scoring a long-range goal to make it 3-2 in Istanbul and then nailing the winning penalty with the final kick of his Liverpool career. Fairytale stuff.
Igor Biscan: Performance-wise, we’re going to say his game at Deportivo La Coruna in the 2004/05 season. He was hugely influential in the absence of Gerrard and Xabi Alonso.
LONDON, ENGLAND - Saturday, May 14, 2022: Liverpool's Thiago Alcântara celebrates after the FA Cup Final between Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC at Wembley Stadium. The game ended in a goal-less draw, Liverpool won 6-5 on penalties. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)
Thiago: The goal against Porto was incredibly special (did it touch the ground?), and we’re torn between his performance against Man United at Anfield and the FA Cup semi-final against Man City – both were world-class performances.
Mark Gonzalez: More recent than everyone else, but it really is hard to look beyond the free-kick he scored against Man United Legends at Old Trafford. It was a stunning finish and a worthy one after his health battles.
Jay Spearing: When the academy graduate was serenaded by the Kop as a substitute against Real Madrid in 2009, his name was sung proudly in that memorable 4-0 win.
Louise Schillgard: No question, it’s the title-winning goal against Bristol City, which saw Liverpool Women win their first-ever WSL trophy in 2013.

Liverpool, England - Saturday, March 3, 2007: Liverpool's Peter Crouch celebrates scoring the fourth goal and completes his hat-trick against Arsenal during the Premiership match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)
Peter Crouch: It might have taken Crouch time to get going, but that perfect hat-trick against Arsenal (left-foot, right-foot and header) in 2007 was special.
Dirk Kuyt: It has to be the hat-trick against Man United, he was the first to ever do it in the Premier League era! All three goals were scored inside the six-yard box. An elite poacher.
Ryan Babel: Another who had a memorable moment against United. Babel came off the bench in 2008, with his strike securing the league win. It was Rafael Benitez’s first over Alex Ferguson.
Jermaine Pennant: Time stood still when he unleashed the volley from an angle and well outside the penalty box against Chelsea. They were left as stunned as Anfield in 2007.

Albert Riera: This is becoming quite the goal tribute piece, but as a forward, it’s only right. And we can’t end without remembering his well-hit volley against Aston Villa (2009). Reina had quite the assist!
Florent Sinama Pongolle: Liverpool needed three goals to qualify against Olympiacos, and he got the ball rolling with a tidy tap for the equaliser. He then set the second in motion as well.
Natasha Dowie: As Liverpool Women‘s record goalscorer, it is only right we mention the Golden Boot-winning season in 2013 (13 goals), which saw her score two league hat-tricks.
