Sandro Tonali gentleman’s agreement with Newcastle could make Man Utd transfer feasible

Sandro Tonali has emerged as a top target for Manchester United’s quest for midfield reinforcements. It has been revealed that the Italy international has a gentleman’s agreement in place with Newcastle if they fail to achieve one of their main objectives this season.

The biggest job facing Manchester United’s recruitment team right now is signing the right replacement for Casemiro.

After four years at Old Trafford, Casemiro will leave United at the end of the season, hopefully having helped Michael Carrick’s side secure Champions League qualification.

As we get closer to the end of the season, with seven games left to play, United will narrow down their wish list of midfielders.

Man Utd could gain from Sandro Tonali’s gentleman’s agreement with Newcastle

There are a vast range of potential midfield targets for United this summer.

Many of which being reported by the mainstream media are already playing in the Premier League, but that isn’t the case for Real Madrid’s French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

United fans would argue that two midfield signings should be a minimum, especially with Manuel Ugarte facing an uncertain future at the club due to underwhelming performances since his 2024 transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

In terms of midfield targets in the Premier League, they include Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba. United have also been linked with Newcastle duo Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

It was recently reported that United are in talks with Guimaraes, but there’s a slim chance of Newcastle allowing two of their star midfielders to leave for United in the same summer.

According to Shields Gazette, Tonali and his representatives believe they have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in place with Newcastle.

They understand that should Newcastle fail to qualify for Europe next season, currently sitting 12th in the top flight, the club will consider offers for the Italian midfielder.

Meanwhile, it was suggested Tonali is open to joining United, meaning a decision may need to be made about which option is best suited to come in and partner Kobbie Mainoo in the centre of the pitch.

Man Utd expected to make formal approach for Sandro Tonali

In a transfer story that appears to be gaining ground, more media outlets have jumped on the Tonali claims.

The Daily Mail’s Newcastle correspondent Craig Hope believes United will make a formal approach to sign Tonali before the end of the season.

This means Tonali is set to become United’s priority midfield target over Elliot Anderson and Wharton.

After losing a key player last summer, and set for the same to happen this year, Newcastle fans won’t be happy.
