Newcastle United know their sole focus between now and the end of the season is securing European football, with a slim chance of returning to the Champions League. Defeat to Sunderland at the weekend leaves the Magpies seven points behind Liverpool in fifth place, which is likely to be the final spot for Europe's elite competition.
Eddie Howe's side need a major rebuild this summer and the club have already been linked with several incoming and outgoing transfers.
Failure to qualify for the Champions League would only increase speculation regarding the future of some of the club's biggest stars, with Ross Wilson and Co. set for a major transfer window this summer.
With that in mind ChronicleLive has taken a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer news and speculation in the media at present.
Sandro Tonali 'agreement'
The Shields Gazette claims Sandro Tonali has an agreement in place with Newcastle to be allowed to leave St. James' Park, should the Magpies fail to qualify for European football.
It claims the two parties have a gentleman's agreement in place, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United to be on high alert.
Champions League football looks a long way off for the Magpies, and the report claims Conference League football may not be enough to satisfy Tonali.
However, the report also says if the Magpies are able to land Europa League football, there's every chance the Italian remains at Newcastle.
It also claims the club have learned from last summer's Alexander Isak transfer saga and are not willing to suffer a repeat.
ChronicleLive says: "It certainly wouldn't come as a surprise if Tonali leaves St. James' Park this summer, in the event that Newcastle miss out on European football. However, Newcastle would be able to demand a huge fee for the Italian and it will be reinvested into the squad."

'£50m defender eyed'
TeamTalk claim Newcastle United are keen on a move for Arsenal outcast Ben White this summer. The report claims the England international, who has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta, is among a number of stars who could be sold to raise funds for the Gunners.
The report claims the Magpies will face competition from Liverpool and Manchester United for his services this summer, with the 28-year-old viewed as a replacement for Kieran Trippier. White cost Arsenal £50m when they bought him from Brighton, and the defender is said to be disgruntled with his lack of game time.
ChronicleLive says: "On paper, White would be a good signing. He can play at centre-back and at right-back, while Trippier is likely to leave the club this summer. The England international should be available at a cut-price fee, having not played much football in recent years."
