Everton ready to move for perfect David Moyes signing - ticks 2/3 boxes (opinion)

Everton are ‘ready to make a move’ for Lutsharel Geertruida.

The Dutchman is currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig, and the Black Cats have a £20m option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season – although the Netherlands international himself must agree to the move.

It was TEAMtalk who shared the news – and if Everton can find a way to bring Geertruida to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, it would solve two issues The Friedkin Group are looking to rectify for David Moyes.

Everton can kill two birds with one stone by signing Lutsharel Geertruida thanks to his versatility

A story from iNews earlier this week claimed Everton are prioritising three positions in the transfer market this summer, hoping to find a new striker, right-back and central defender.

Interestingly, Geertruida can cover two of those three positions, having made nine appearances at centre-back this season for Sunderland as well as playing six games at right-back.

The man from Rotterdam can also operate at the base of midfield.

Position Games Goals Assists

Centre-Back 9 0 0

Defensive Midfield 6 0 0

Right-Back 6 0 0

Sunderland boss has already hailed Geertruida for his versatility, saying: “I think his main strength is versatility…I think we have to value his versatility, because it’s his strength. And for him, it’s a complex situation, because he’s really useful for the squad.”

Signing one player to sort out a lack of depth in two areas should also free up more of the transfer budget for Moyes to spend on a better striker, or look to improve another area the Glaswegian may feel could be upgraded, like the left-back department.

At the age of just 25 and with 19 caps for the Netherlands under his belt, there are few more attractive players on the market this summer than Geertruida.

It will be tough to lure the Sunderland No.6 away from Wearside after a productive season on loan with the Black Cats. TEAMtalk say Geertruida is happy at the Stadium of Light, but is, however, also open to a new opportunity.

So, if Everton can beat Sunderland to European football, it would surely only increase the chances of a deal materialising.
