Leeds United confirm loan move for academy prospect capped by Italy at youth level

Leeds United have allowed Italy youth international Kenneth Mensah to join Scarborough Athletic on loan.

The 17-year-old forward has impressed for the Whites at under-18 and under-21 level, making rapid progress within the club’s academy set-up.

Mensah, who signed a two-year scholarship deal with Leeds last summer, has also been capped by Italy at under-16 level.

He will spend the rest of the season on the sixth rung of the English football ladder, having been sent to National League North outfit Scarborough.

Mensah will have a high-profile manager to develop under, with Scarborough led by former Premier League midfielder Jonathan Greening.

The Seadogs boss said: “We are pleased to have him on board to help us with the final part of the season and we are looking forward to seeing what he can do, we hope he enjoys his time with us.”

Leeds United confirm loan exit

A statement issued by Leeds read: “Leeds United can confirm Academy attacker Kenneth Mensah has joined Scarborough Athletic on a work experience loan until the end of the season.

“The Italian youth international has scored five times in 18 appearances for the Whites’ Under-18s this campaign, as well as featuring on four occasions for the Under-21s.

“Mensah heads to the Flamingo Land Stadium with Scarborough currently occupying the final play-off position in the National League North.

“Everyone at Leeds United would like to wish Kenneth well during his time away from the club and we will be monitoring his progress closely.”

Moves elsewhere

The move was made on non-league’s very own ‘deadline day’, the final day on which new arrivals can be registered.

There was plenty of activity elsewhere in Yorkshire and a former Leeds prospect was on the move.

Jenkins left Elland Road in January 2024, sealing a permanent move to Halifax after making just one senior appearance for Leeds.

League Two strugglers Harrogate Town, meanwhile, sanctioned a loan move to fifth-tier AFC Fylde for experienced forward Conor McAleny.

National League promotion hopefuls York City also confirmed a loan departure, sending midfielder Ricky Aguiar to Eastleigh, and Huddersfield Town sent Jay Sway to Hartlepool United.
