Gabriel Gudmundsson says he is readying himself for Tuesday night’s World Cup qualifying play-off with Poland – despite picking up a knock in Sweden’s 3-1 win over Ukraine.

The full back has been a key player for Leeds United this season, starting 28 of their 31 Premier League games and making the left back berth his own.

Which is why there would have been concern at Thorp Arch when the 26-year-old had to be replaced with 13 minutes left in last night’s win.

A Viktor Gyokeres hat-trick had put the Swedes one step closer to the finals in North America.

They must now beat Poland, who defeated Albania 2-1, and Gudmundsson allayed fears over the knock which required an ice pack. "It's the same as always,” Gudmundsson told the Sweden Herald. “Take care of your body and make sure you're ready for Tuesday. Of course, I wanted to [play on], but it was a trade-off and it felt good."

With a game in four days Sweden will hope Gudmundsson’s optimism is well-placed, while Leeds will need him for their huge relegation clash with West Ham on Easter Sunday.

Gudmundsson arrived from Lille last summer and has done well in his first season in the Premier League – albeit he was sent off in his last Leeds match, a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace which kept him out of the Brentford game.

It turns out he should not have been shown a second yellow card after an incident with Ismaila Sarr, with the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents Panel unanimously agreeing referee Thomas Bramall was wrong to caution him for a second time.

The KMI Panel said that there was "minimal contact" and "the challenge was careless and not clearly reckless".

It was a ruling that proved Daniel Farke right after he said: "Everyone in the stadium can see [it was the wrong decision]. It was doubtful if it was even a foul. For me, it was a clear mistake."
