A Leeds United ace’s national team have made 21st century history with a crushing victory - even without the services of the star Whites midfielder.
Ilia Gruev has already amassed 27 caps for Bulgaria at just 25 years of age and the midfielder was named in the nation’s squad for March’s fixtures which began with Friday’s clash against the Solomon Islands in Indonesia as part of the 2026 FIFA Series tournament.
Gruev, though, fresh from being named as Bulgaria's 2025 Player of the Year, withdrew from the squad due to personal reasons, the midfielder telling Bulgarian outlet fakti.bg: “These are my personal reasons and I hope you will respect my opinion that I will not comment on this topic anymore.”
Without him, Bulgaria took on the Solomon Islands on Friday morning and his team romped to an incredible 10-2 victory for what was the nation’s biggest win of the 21st century.
