£10m Leeds United star drops four-word update after worrying new injury concern

Leeds United left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson looked to pick up a worrying injury problem on Sweden duty this week.

We all hope for success as our international players head out for crucial World Cup qualifiers this week. Although, the selfish Leeds fan in me wants nothing more than a clean bill of health.

So, when Gabriel Gudmundsson supposedly injured his knee last night for Sweden, it was panic stations.

Gabriel Gudmundsson injury issue cleared up as Leeds United left-back moves one game away from World Cup

Gudmundsson started last night as a left-wing-back in Sweden’s qualifying playoff semi-final against Ukraine, with Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres the star of the show.

Gyokeres’ hattrick fired Sweden past Ukraine and into the playoff final to determine a place in the World Cup, facing Poland on Tuesday.

However, the Leeds flier was seemingly forced off in the second half with injury, nursing a knee issue before continuing for another 10 minutes.

Understandably, seeing a knee injury crop up for a vital player under Daniel Farke is less than ideal. But, the £10million summer signing cleared up any worries.

“It’s the same as always,” Gudmundsson told the Sweden Herald, needing an ice pack. “Take care of your body and make sure you’re ready for Tuesday. Of course, I wanted to [play on], but it was a trade-off and it felt good.”

After that, Gudmundsson shared an update on social media suggesting he’s raring to go on Tuesday against Poland.

“1 more to go,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

Leeds United can’t afford a Gabriel Gudmundsson injury from now until May

I do think the most glaring issue with our performance against Brentford was the lack of natural width we had. What didn’t help was Gudmundsson being suspended, because we have no natural left-footers to replace him.

James Justin is more than good enough to play anywhere, he’s our Swiss army knife. That said, it was obvious he wasn’t a like-for-like backup, because he couldn’t get to the by-line, forced to check back onto his right foot.

For that reason, I do think Gudmundsson’s fitness is more important than anything right now.

Should he stay fit for the rest of the season, we should keep our balance and look a much more potent threat. Especially when you throw Noah Okafor into the mix too.
