West Ham have announced that young striker Josh Landers has joined Boreham Wood on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old forward will link up with fellow Hammers loanee Junior Robinson in Hertfordshire, as Boreham Wood push for a historic promotion to the Football League for the first time in their 78-year existence.
In an official statement, the club said: “He could make his debut for Luke Garrard’s team when they make the long trip to Truro City on Saturday.
“Everyone at West Ham United wishes Josh the very best for his loan spell at Boreham Wood.”
Big Opportunity for “Outstanding” Prospect
Landers — previously labelled “outstanding” by academy manager Kenny Brown — is widely regarded as one of West Ham’s brightest young attackers.
He has enjoyed a productive spell at youth level, scoring nine goals in 30 appearances for the U21s this season, after an even more prolific return of nine in 12 games for the U18s.
His journey hasn’t been without challenges, though. A recent four-month goal drought tested his resilience, but he managed to come through that difficult period and rediscover his scoring touch.
Now, the move to Boreham Wood offers him a chance to step into senior football and continue his development in a competitive environment. With his new side firmly in the hunt for a National League play-off spot, Landers could play an important role in their promotion push.
While West Ham focus on their fight for Premier League survival, Landers’ loan move represents an important step in his progression.
Gaining experience in senior football could prove invaluable for the young striker, and if he impresses, he may yet have a role to play in the club’s future.
