Could there be shock transfer business between Everton and Liverpool this summer window?
There could be shock transfer business in Merseyside this summer as links emerge of a potential big-money dealing between the city’s two great clubs ahead of next season.
Liverpool and Everton are currently closer in the Premier League table than they have been at this stage of the season for some time, with just three points separating the clubs as Arne Slot’s Reds falter in their quest for Champions League qualification while the Toffees launch a charge for European football of their own.
This summer will be an intriguing one for both clubs. Liverpool will be on the search for a replacement for Mohamed Salah amidst further squad issues in particularly defensive areas, and might need to hit the transfer market hard once again in order to return to title contention next term. Meanwhile for Everton, a potential European adventure would likely shape their summer business and could see the Toffees target high-profile stars to take their side to the next level - while hoping to keep hold of their most important players.
Liverpool target Everton star Iliman Ndiaye as shock Salah replacement
Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye is a target for Liverpool as they draw up names to replace Salah at Anfield this summer, report TEAMtalk. The Reds are ready to launch a ‘ground-breaking move’ for the Toffees star and are considering him as an option to replace the great Egyptian on the right wing for next season.
Ndiaye’s name is garnering ‘serious attention’ among Liverpool decision makers in what would be a shock swoop for one of the key players from their bitter cross-city rivals. The 26-year-old has bagged six goals and three assists this season and has been touted with major moves to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in recent months after stepping up his game this term.
With the likes of Michael Olise, Désiré Doué and Bradley Barcola firmly shut down as options for Liverpool according to the report, Ndiaye has come ‘firmly into focus’. The controversial raid could see the Reds bid for one of Everton’s prize assets, with a £65 million price touted by reports.
Could Ndiaye complete a shock switch to Everton’s greatest rivals?
Only 29 players have moved between Everton and Liverpool in history and just two in the 21st century, with the last being Abel Xavier back in 2002. For that number to increase with the sale of Ndiaye to Liverpool this summer would certainly raise several eyebrows – but may not be entirely impossible if the Reds up their pursuit and choose the Senegalese as their ideal successor to Salah’s berth.
Ndiaye might not have the prolific goalscoring numbers of Salah but he certainly passes the eye test as a player capable of winning games on his own and scoring wonderful goals, such as the inch-perfect strike which sunk Chelsea at Hill Dickinson Stadium last weekend.
The former Marseille and Sheffield United star is a Premier League-proven game changer and Liverpool will feel that he still has another level to reach, particularly if given the chance the link up with the likes of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitiké at Anfield. A summer move for Ndiaye from Everton to Liverpool would be historic, and still at this point appears unlikely – but watch this space.
