Keely Hodgkinson not backing down on West Ham criticism over London Stadium

Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson has refused to back down after criticising West Ham over the club’s apparent blocking of a London bid for the World Athletics Championships.

Plans have been made to host the event at the London Stadium in 2029, but the Hammers, who hold a long-term lease at the venue, have reportedly refused to vacate for the proposed September date.

The club have previously said they have an agreement in place allowing them priority use of the ground, which was built for the London 2012 Olympics, during the football season.

“The GB team will bring back more medals to that stadium than west ham have seen in their entire history,” she wrote.

The 24-year-old, winner of 800m gold in Paris two years ago, has now followed up with a more measured message.

“Seems silly for London to be taken out of the running, over a football team not compromising on a stadium they pay RENT for when it’s only a few extra away games, everything’s always all about money and never moments. let us have this moment!!! pretty please.”

West Ham have been contacted by the Press Association.
