Thomas Tuchel shares his James Garner verdict after awarding him his England debut

Thomas Tuchel handed Everton midfielder James Garner his senior England debut on Friday evening.

The Three Lions were in action against Uruguay in an international friendly at Wembley Stadium in the lead-up to this summer’s World Cup.

Garner has enjoyed a mightily impressive season for Everton shirt and finally received the phone call from Tuchel for the latest round of friendlies.

The England manager has had a few days to work closely with Garner and shared his thoughts as he awarded the 25-year-old his debut.

Garner has been hard at work in the England camp this week to earn this opportunity under Tuchel.

Speaking to ITV Sport ahead of the game, Tuchel shared his delight with what he has seen from the Everton midfielder so far.

He's been exceptional just about all season for the Blues!

“Jimmy is a good football player, first of all. Very clean in everything he does, fast, has a lot of volume, covers a lot of ground,” said the German.

“He helps everyone around him and makes everyone else better. I think he will have a good match.”

It is an England debut which has been thoroughly deserved by Garner.

On the back of hearing the news, Garner shared his delight at his England call-up, but the hard work really started on Tuesday.

The Everton midfielder started alongside veteran Jordan Henderson at Wembley and did not look out of place in the opening 45 minutes.
