Gomez shows more free-kick qualities with birthday strike

The Albion midfielder scored the only goal of Paraguay’s friendly with Greece in Piraeus.

He drilled home a free-kick from just outside the penalty area early in the second half.

Gomez tested the goalkeeper with a fierce shot aiming for the far top corner when the Seagulls beat Liverpool last week.

This time he went low to the keeper’s right and drilled his shot just inside the post.

Gomez looks like being a key player for the Albirroja at the World Cup finals this summer.

His goal came on his 23th birthday as he played the first hour of the game.

Gomez was sporting an eye-catching silver hair colour having had a change of look while away with his national team in Athens.

Meanwhile former Albion forward Julio Enciso impressed and was said to have been applauded off the field by Greek fans.

Paraguay’s form since confirming their qualification had been worrying their fans.

While this performance did not appear to totally convince fans and media, they were pleased with the win and the chance taken to bring in new players.

Paraguay now prepare for a friendly against Morroco in Lens on Tuesday.
