Longhurst, who was a teammate of boss Helen Bleazard at Chelsea and defender Jessica Hennessy later in her career at Nottingham Forest, praised Bournemouth for their campaign so far.
Bleazard’s side face Plymouth Argyle in the National League Cup final on Saturday, with both in a three-way fight for the top two spots in the league and promotion.

While Watford have some breathing space at the top, Argyle and the Cherries look set for a tight race for second and the playoff spot.
“Because it's so tight at the top between three teams, so anything can happen from now to the end of season,” Longhurst said.
“And then to be in a cup final, to show you that you're the best out of the Southern and the Northern League.
“Again, it's a really exciting opportunity for them.
“So I think if they'd have planned out their season how they could at the beginning, they're exactly where they want to be.
“I think for us [Nottingham Forest] last season, winning it, it was almost like the cup final was almost that incentive to then push us on for the rest of the season as well.
“So anything you have an opportunity to win, you want to go and win it. But then it gives you a taste for more and it makes you want to finish off the job that you've already started.
“So I think they're having the perfect season if they could have laid it out at the beginning.”

Longhurst was not surprised to see Bleazard step so well into coaching after she retired from playing last summer.
“But maybe getting a head job so early in her career is surprising just in terms of, not many people can make that step up,” she said.
“So it's great for her that she's been able to do that and in a temporary role and then done a really good job so she's kept the job.
“So she's doing a great job now. They're in the cup final, chances of promotion. So yeah, I think it's something she can be very proud of.”
On Hennessy, she has been pleased to see her thrive with regular minutes at Bournemouth having struggled for consistent game time at Forest.
“It was really difficult for her at Forest, I think, because she didn't get as much game time as she wanted,” she said.
“But you could see the talent that she has, the potential that she has. She's a tall player, but she's really good with her feet. She's really good defensively.
“I think it's been really nice to see her flourish this season in the Bournemouth side and be an integral part of that. A really great person to have around the team.
“Not the loudest, but would always join in with the banter, and we used to share lifts as well for training.
“So yeah, I'm just really, really glad that she's doing well at Bournemouth because she deserves that chance, and I think it'd be a really nice opportunity for her to try and win something again, but also probably play a bigger part than maybe she felt she had at Forest.”
On the cup final, Longhurst is backing the Cherries to bring the cup back to Dorset.
“I hope it's similar to Sunday's game in terms of entertainment, loads of attacking football, which is really exciting to see because sometimes it's one team attacks, one team defends,” she said.
“I think both of them will go for it.”
She added: “I'm going to back Bournemouth this weekend.”
