Anfield heroes Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard are set to make their return to Liverpool on Saturday for a legends clash against Borussia Dortmund. Frustration has been growing around the current form of the defending Premier League champions, with Liverpool faltering in their quest to secure a top four finish.
Some fans have even called for former manager Klopp or ex-club captain Gerrard to replace under-fire boss Arne Slot. However, those supporters will have to make do with the duo returning to Anfield for a charity fixture for now, a game which will support the LFC Foundation.
Klopp, like Gerrard, has mythical status amongst the red half of Merseyside. The German took charge in October 2015, amid on-pitch turmoil. He subsequently transformed Liverpool into one of the world's most formidable teams, winning the Premier League and Champions League, and left after nine years in charge in the summer of 2024.
Gerrard won the Champions League, UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his iconic stint as Reds captain. He ventured into management after retiring, with spells at Rangers, Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq.

Since leaving Anfield, Klopp has confirmed he would not manage another club in England. However, he didn't altogether rule out a return to the Reds at some point in the future.

Speaking in 2024, he said: "What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent. That's not possible. My love for this club, my respect for the people, is too big.
Asked again last year if he would ever return to Liverpool, Klopp said: "I said I will never coach a different team in England so that means, if [I did return], then it's Liverpool. So, yeah, theoretically it is possible."
Gerrard has also revealed his eagerness to help out his former club, should they ever need him. He told TNT Sports in December 2025: “I’ll be brutally, brutally honest with you: I’d help Liverpool in any department at any minute of every day. I’d help them in anything."

Joining Klopp and Gerrard for the legends clash are ex-Liverpool players Thiago, Sami Hyypia, Fabio Aurelio, Gregory Vignal, Martin Kelly and Yossi Benayoun. Ragnar Klavan, Mark Gonzalez, Igor Biscan, Jay Spearing, Ryan Babel, Florent Sinama Pongolle, Albert Riera and Jermaine Pennant are also set to make an appearance.
The match will take place on March 28, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm. Speaking ahead of the game against his former Bundesliga side, Klopp said: "I'm really proud to be an Ambassador for the LFC Foundation. It means a lot to me, honestly.
"To be back at Anfield for the Legends game, alongside Sir Kenny [Dalglish] and his team, playing against the BVB legends, that is something special. It's going to be a very emotional and special day for me, for the LFC Foundation and for everyone involved. I can't wait and I really hope to see you all there."
