The 27-year-old had never featured in the top flight prior to this season, playing the majority of his football in the Championship and the Dutch leagues.

But with seven games of the season remaining, the forward – who has been utilised as an out-and-out striker, rather than his preferred number 10 role – has eight league goals to his name and nine in all competitions.

To put that into some context, it’s the same number of goals as England international Jarrod Bowen has managed, as well as Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.

It’s also more than Newcastle United’s £65m summer signing Nick Woltemade and £62m Manchester United man Matheus Cunha.

To make Flemming’s feat all the more impressive, the eight-goal haul has come from just 14 starts.

The Dutchman, who missed the start of the season through injury before suffering an injury that kept him out in January, has also made eight appearances off the bench.

Scoring eight times from 1,191 minutes of action means Flemming is averaging a goal in the Premier League every 148 minutes.

Only eight players have a better minutes-per-goal record this season in the division and that list includes the likes of Erling Haaland, Igor Thiago and Benjamin Sesko.

The only time Flemming has hit the back of the net at Turf Moor this season was a few weeks ago during the 4-3 defeat to Brentford.

It was also a similar tale in the Championship last season, when he scored just three of his 14 goals on home turf.
