Newcastle United injuries: Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Miley and Fabian Schar are close to returning to action after the international break.
Newcastle United are hoping to welcome back some key players after the international break.
The Magpies have a three-week game before they return to action in the Premier League at Crystal Palace on April 12 (2pm kick-off).
While it’s a welcome break from a busy fixture schedule, it comes on the back of a 2-1 derby defeat to Sunderland that leaves them sitting 12th in the Premier League table.
The Magpies have seven games left to salvage their Premier League season. And with a calmer fixture schedule and key players returning from injury, there are no excuses for Eddie Howe and his players.
Here is the Newcastle United injury list and expected return dates as things stand...
Sandro Tonali
Tonali missed the recent matches against Chelsea and Sunderland after suffering a groin injury during the Champions League defeat to Barcelona. However, Eddie Howe indicated the player was only a few days away from fitness after the Sunderland match and he has since joined up with the Italy squad.
Expected return date: Crystal Palace (A) - 12/04
Lewis Miley
Initially diagnosed as a dead leg in January, Miley's injury has kept him out for over two months. Subsequent assessments revealed muscle damage to his thigh. The club has been cautious with the 19-year-old to avoid a long-term setback, but Howe anticipates he should be available following the international break.
Expected return date: Crystal Palace (A) - 12/04
Bruno Guimaraes
The Newcastle captain has been sidelined for over a month with a hamstring injury. While he has returned to England for the final stages of his rehabilitation, his recovery was recently slowed by a bout of mumps, which forced him into isolation for five days.
Expected return date: Crystal Palace (A) - 12/04
Fabian Schar
Fabian Schar required surgery on an ankle injury suffered during the 4-3 win over Leeds United back in January. He was given a three-month injury return timeframe with the hope he will be back shortly after the international break.
The Crystal Palace match is a target, albeit an optimistic one.
Expected return date: AFC Bournemouth (H) - 18/04
Sven Botman
Sven Botman suffered a facial fracture during the second half of the Tyne-Wear derby defeat on Sunday. The club confirmed he has undergone successful surgery. While he is expected to miss several weeks, the defender hopes to be available for the closing weeks of the campaign
Expected return date: West Ham United (H) - 17/05
Emil Krafth
Emil Krafth suffered a knee injury back in November which later required surgery that brought a premature end to his season. It’s the second serious knee injury Krafth has suffered having previously been ruled out for 14 months between 2022 and 2023.
With his contract up in the summer, it is likely that he has already played his last game for the club.
Expected return date: Summer 2026
