CrossCountry trains have issued a travel warning to rugby fans heading to Villa Park in Birmingham to watch the Slater Cup fixture.
A major train operator has issued a travel warning to rugby fans heading to Villa Park today (March 28) for the Slater Cup fixture.
The Slater Cup is an annual fixture played in honour of former Gloucester and Leicester lock Ed Slater, following his diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in July 2022.

Today, Gloucester Rugby, known as the ‘Cherry and Whites’, will trade their home ground of Kingsholm for Villa Park in Birmingham to take on Leicester Tigers at 1pm for Gloucester’s leg of the Slater Cup.
But fans who may be travelling from Gloucester to watch the match via CrossCountry train services have been issued a warning by the rail service as the journey is expected to be busier than usual.

In a post on X, a spokesperson said: “ Services will be busier into Birmingham New St today from Gloucester and Leicester until 12.00 and returning from 16.30 due to the Slater Cup at Villa Park.
“Please check before you travel .”
