‘No to De Zerbi!’ 46-year-old manager faces wave of opposition from Tottenham fan groups

Tottenham remain winless in the Premier League under Igor Tudor.

Roberto De Zerbi is facing strong opposition and backlash from several Tottenham fan groups, amid his potential arrival at Tottenham as the next manager.

De Zerbi, former manager of Marseille, who left the club on mutual consent last month, is one of the favorites to replace interim boss Igor Tudor at Tottenham. Tudor, who took over in February, earlier this year, is still winless in the Premier League, having gotten 1 point from a possible 15.

His only win came in a fighting victory over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 fixture. Since it looks like the end might be near for Tudor, a number of names have been floating around, and right at the top of it is the 46-year-old De Zerbi.

However, the former Brighton manager faces a wave of opposition from the Tottenham supporters group on X, viz. Women of the Lane, Proud Lilywhites and SpursREACH.

Robert De Zerbi opposed by Tottenham fan groups for past comments on Mason Greenwood

In 2022, then-Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood was arrested for s*xual assault, threats to kill, and engaging in controlling and coercive behavior. The charges were later dropped that year. His Man United career hit a roadblock after that, and he eventually joined Marseille in 2024 (after a loan spell at Getafe the previous year).

At Marseille, he was managed by De Zerbi, and now the 46-year-old’s earlier comments on Greenwood, defending the attacker, have emerged. De Zerbi had said: “He’s a good guy, he paid a heavy price for what happened, a very heavy price..It saddens me what happened in his life, because I know a totally different person than the one who was described in England.”

In light of this, Women of the Lane and two other Tottenham fan groups have strongly condemned De Zerbi potentially taking over the reins at Tottenham. Check out their tweets below, with everyone displaying a common message and caption: “NO to De Zerbi.”

While the links of De Zerbi to Tottenham are still not strong enough, the wave of opposition might only increase if the 46-year-old potentially taking over at Spurs comes to fruition.
