Nottingham Forest are said to have joined the race for in-demand Brazilian starlet Gabriel Mec.
The teenage Gremio attacker, who can operate as a left winger or attacking midfielder, has been compared to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and has a long list of clubs eyeing his signature. He is only 17 and is only just starting to play consistently at senior level but already there appears to be a buzz about his prospects.
According to Sport Witness, the Reds have “enquired” about the youngster. They are said to be monitoring his situation “closely” as the summer transfer window approaches.

Gremio appear set to sell as they reportedly need to generate funds to ease financial pressures. But Forest would likely face a fight for Gabriel Mec’s signature.
Brentford have also been identified as potential suitors. Like the Reds, the Bees are said to be “firmly in the picture” for the teenager ahead of his 18th birthday next month.
Gremio previously accepted a bid worth in the region of €15 million (£13m) from Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk. However, the move fell down after the player opted to prioritise his development in Brazil.
Chelsea are said to have scouted him in action while Liverpool have also been keeping tabs on him. The latter have reportedly compared the teen’s pace and direct attacking style to that of fellow Brazilian Vinicius Junior.
There is interest from European clubs, too. Gabriel Mec’s agents are said to have travelled to the continent for talks and have held meetings with Benfica and Sporting Lisbon. Porto, who Forest face in the quarter-finals of the Europa League after the international break, are also in the frame to snap up the highly-regarded talent.
With so much interest, Gremio’s are eyeing a “major sale” and a summer deal is said to be expected. It is claimed they now see the previous price tag of €15m as simply a starting point for any negotiations.
Sport Witness refer to Gabriel Mec as being a “game-changing player” thanks to his tenacity and direct style. Forest have made good use of the Brazilian market in the past and currently have five Brazilians in Vitor Pereira’s squad.

Regardless of whether the Reds retain their Premier League status or drop back to the Championship, it will be a big summer at the City Ground. Changes will be made to Pereira’s dressing room either way, with incomings and outgoings on the cards.
