West Ham target young Swiss defender in summer move

Ahead of what is set to be a pivotal summer transfer window, West Ham United have joined the race to sign Roggerio Nyakossi, according to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/38659452/chelsea-liverpool-roggerio-nyakossi-transfer-news/).

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are in need of defensive reinforcements, having conceded 57 league goals in 31 matches so far.

Nyakossi has emerged as one of the most statistically dominant young defenders in Europe, combining a towering 1.94m (6ft 4in) frame with elite ball-playing ability.

In 19 Belgian Pro League appearances this term, he has played 1,530 minutes, maintaining a remarkable 90.2% pass completion rate and 62% accuracy with long balls.

Beyond his distribution, his aerial presence also makes him an attacking threat—he has already netted three goals this season. His positional awareness is equally impressive, as he averages 4.2 clearances and 1.2 interceptions per game.

Nyakossi’s performances in recent months have earned him the captaincy of the Switzerland U21 national team.

However, West Ham face a complex battle to secure his signature, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Fulham, Everton, and Crystal Palace also interested in the defender.

Furthermore, his former club Marseille hold a buy-back clause from his €800,000 transfer in 2025, giving the French side first refusal.

With his market value currently estimated at €2.6m but expected to rise significantly, Nyakossi represents a high-ceiling investment. For a West Ham side that have been uncharacteristically leaky at the back, he is viewed as a long-term leader.

Still, it remains to be seen whether the Hammers can fend off competition from their Premier League rivals and Marseille’s contractual leverage.
